Ending Day Three Training

On August 11, 2010 I learned the difference in an observation and a visit. An observation is when one goes into a particular setting and sees what needs to be done or how something can be improved. A visit consist of giving feedback to who ever was being observed. I was also was placed in a group to demonstrate our knowledge of how to use and make a power point. Our power point was a success it was direct and straight to the point. Today Jason Blocker came in and gave the class an awesome lesson on how to sign up for DOT USA website and how to properly navigate through the website effectively. He also showed us how to use the Promethean Board, which was super cool. It had various activities that the teacher could use to engage his or her students. Ginny and Martha gave us great examples on how to and how not to introduce ourselves to the teachers at the school we will be placed in. Then of course we were given a project in which we had to make a vodcast of us introducing ourselves to the teachers. For me there was a little complication with geting the video of the cell phone and on to the computer. But it was not a long lasting complication because I moved on to plan B I remade  the vodcast using a flip camera. In the end it all worked in and I had another enjoyable and enlightening training day.

Ending Day Two Training

On August 10, 2010 I learned how to use make a movie program. My group had to make a movie about time management. In the movie we had to create a 3-4 minute movie which had to include audio, video, image and text. In the beginning my group had a problem communicating with one another. Once the problem was solved we settled down worked as a team and completed our assignment in a timely manner. Overall I enjoyed working with my group and using the make a movie and the audacity programs.

Ending Day One Training

On August 9, 2010 was our first day of training for TeachUp! I Learned a lot of useful things. For example, I learned what a Promethean board is it's to help get student's involved using technology in class. I learned how to use Goggle Earth which is a program that uses satellites that takes pictures of the earth and one can zoom into a specific state or country and find a specific address and other things. It's used world wide and it can be helpful if a teacher uses it in a geography class. Another program we learned how to use was a podcast it's a digital media file which can be audio or video that can be put out as episodes or downloaded to a blog or website and published. In my group we used audacity to create a podcast. I also learned what a blog is and how to use one. As you can see I am putting what I have learned to use.

Day One of Training

Kenyatta Wilson: My goals after this program is to become a better public speaker. I would like to take with me new found information about technology further down the road in life as I continue my education. Also I would like to teach the teachers and students of the delta how to incorporate technology into the classroom and to make learning fun and interesting in the classroom. Being an intern with DOT will help me continue my studies financially as well. As of now I am enjoying myself and learning new information about different sites and programs.

Derrick Hair: My goals are to be as helpful and understanding towards the students and teachers throughout this school year. My goals are to provide help and make the process of learning interesting and fun.

Nyesha Williams: My goal for this intern is to learn more about the new technology.  I want to better my education about modern technology so that I  can help the teachers to better understand technology also.  Majority of all careers and jobs these days are computer based.  If a person has no computer knowledge, how can he/she apply it at the job?  I will then step in and the children of today's society will have a brighter future.

Rhonda Gunn: Hi, I have so many goals I would like to reach while being part of the DOT family. Technology is now everywhere. I want to take time out and learn everything that I can to better help my community, surrounding schools and my church family. By knowing all I can about technology I can ease the stress off someone who's in need and also make a friend in the process.
